Portara in Greek means "the huge door" which is exactly what it is, as it is 6 meters high and 3,5 meters wide. That entrance is what is left from the ancient temple of Apollon which was never completed. This is the most highly photographed attraction of Naxos. It lies on a rock at the edge of the harbor.
